Our Story

Zarban Academy exists because the education our children deserve has not existed here — until now.

Who We Are

Zarban International Academy is a premium, faith-integrated K–12 school in Bauchi, Bauchi State, Nigeria. We are not a conventional school with an Islamic programme attached. We are an institution designed from the ground up around a single conviction: that the strongest Islamic formation and the strongest academic education are not in tension — they are expressions of the same goal.

We were founded by a proprietor who saw, clearly and without sentimentality, what the local education market was not producing: graduates who are simultaneously excellent in their deen and effective in the world. Not one or the other. Both.

The Problem We Are Solving

For too long, Muslim parents in Nigeria have faced a painful and unnecessary choice. Send your child to a strong academic school — and accept that Islamic values will be a peripheral feature, if they appear at all. Or enrol in an Islamic school — and accept that academic standards will not be consistent enough to open the doors you want opened.

This is a false choice. And Zarban Academy is the refusal of it.

We believe that a child who memorises the Qur'an and cannot reason clearly is only half-educated. And that a child who scores distinctions in WAEC but has no moral anchor is an incomplete person. Zarban was designed to produce neither — and both of these things, simultaneously, at the highest possible standard.

Our Philosophy

Education, in the Islamic tradition, is not the accumulation of information. It is the formation of a person. It begins with tarbiyah — the intentional cultivation of character — and extends through the acquisition of knowledge, the development of skill, and the building of a disposition toward service and responsibility.

Every decision at Zarban — from how we hire teachers, to how we structure the school day, to what we recognise and celebrate in students — flows from this understanding.

We are building, with great deliberateness, the kind of person that this era needs: a Muslim who is literate in their faith, confident in English and Arabic, skilled in the world, and aware of their obligation to those around them.

What Makes Us Different

Zarban Academy is not a school where Islamic identity is an add-on. It is a school where Islamic identity is the architecture. It shapes the curriculum, the culture, the hiring standards, the language policy, and the long-term vision for what our graduates become.

We are also, without apology, an academically serious institution. We follow the Nigerian national curriculum and integrate Cambridge IGCSE methodology in key subjects. We hold our teachers to high qualifications and our students to high standards. Academic excellence here is not in competition with Islamic formation — it is a form of it.

Our Name

Zarban

The name carries in it the spirit of the institution — purposeful, rooted, moving forward. It is not a borrowed word. It is a name chosen for this place, this time, and this purpose.

Our Motto

We are nurtured to build civilisation.

نُربَّى لنُعمِّر

The word نُربَّى (we are nurtured) draws from tarbiyah — the Islamic concept of character formation that precedes all other education. The word نُعمِّر (we build civilisation) draws from the Qur'anic concept of عمارة الأرض — the human being's sacred mandate to cultivate and improve the earth. Together, they describe everything we do here.
