The Soul of the School

Our Islamic programme is not an addition to the academic day. It is the foundation that the academic day is built upon.

Zarban Academy was built on a specific understanding of Islamic education: that it is not the memorisation of rules but the formation of a person.

Tarbiyah — the intentional, careful, sustained development of Islamic character — precedes and underlies every other form of education that happens here.

Without it, the academic achievements of our students would be incomplete. With it, they become the foundation for a life of purpose.

What we build

The Daily Islamic Programme

Before any academic subject is taught, the Islamic programme takes its rightful place at the beginning of each school day. Two and a half hours, every day.

1 hr 15 mins

Qur'an & Hifz

Structured Qur'an memorisation and revision, Tajweed correction, and progress tracking. Each student has a personal Hifz record updated weekly. Parents receive a Hifz progress report each term.

45 mins

Islamic Studies

Rotating weekly: Fiqh (jurisprudence), Aqeedah (belief and creed), Seerah (the life of the Prophet ﷺ), and Tarikhul Anbiya (the stories of the Prophets). Taught by qualified Islamic scholars.

30–60 mins

Arabic Language

Structured Arabic language instruction, building from foundational Qur'anic vocabulary to full academic fluency. Arabic is taught as a language of practical and scholarly use — not as a ritual subject.

Qur'an & Hifz

From Nursery, every Zarban student begins their relationship with the Qur'an — not through compulsion but through immersion. Recitation, listening, and basic memorisation begin before formal literacy. By Primary, structured Hifz is embedded in the morning programme for all students, with individual sequencing and personal progress records.

The Hifz programme at Zarban is fully integrated — not a separate strand for a select group. It is part of the academic journey of every student, paced appropriately for each stage and supported by qualified Qur'an teachers holding formal Ijazah.

Arabic Language

Arabic at Zarban is taught at three levels as students progress through the school. In Early Years and Lower Primary: functional Qur'anic Arabic — the language of prayer, du'a, and daily Islamic vocabulary. In Upper Primary and JSS: Arabic as a full academic subject — reading, writing, grammar, and conversation. In Senior Secondary: Arabic as a medium of instruction for Islamic studies subjects.

We are building graduates who can open a book of Islamic scholarship and read it. That goal requires a long-term commitment to Arabic instruction that begins on the first day of school.

Islamic Character Formation (Tarbiyah)

Tarbiyah does not happen only in the Islamic studies classroom. It happens in how teachers speak to students. In the language policy of the school. In the conduct expected in corridors. In the way conflict is resolved. In the celebration of Islamic observance. In the standards of dress, behaviour, and interaction that are held consistently every day.

At Zarban, all staff — not only Islamic studies teachers — are required to be practising Muslims of sound character who personally embody the values the school teaches. Character is modelled before it is taught.

Twice per year, each student receives a structured character development assessment across five dimensions: Salah consistency, akhlaq with peers and teachers, honesty, community contribution, and engagement with knowledge. This is communicated to parents as a development narrative — not a grade.

Daily Salah & Islamic Culture

The school day is structured around the five daily prayers. Zuhr prayer is observed collectively at school with appropriate arrangements by gender. Fajr reflection opens each morning assembly. The closing session of each day includes 'Asr prayer preparation. Islamic modesty standards are observed in uniform and all school environments. All food served is certified halal.

Long-Term Islamic Leadership

From Senior Secondary, Zarban introduces a dedicated Islamic Leadership & Community Studies track. This covers Mosque management, community administration, resolution (Sulh), and civic responsibility from an Islamic framework. It is the beginning of a programme designed to produce the next generation of Muslim community leaders.
